Video magic is a tool that works.
Audiences are watching more video content online than ever before. For businesses, it’s important to note that the majority of consumers consider video an integral part of their journey with a brand. This is just as true for internal content and employer brand.
Great video content can:
- Help to establish culture and values,
- Increase understanding of organisational objective,
- Have a direct and positive impact on productivity and standards.
Knowing that, if video isn’t in your internal comms strategy, it should be.
Before you embark on your journey into video content, you’ll want to know what to expect so you can get the best results.
At dmb films, we have years of experience in developing and creating video content for a range of corporate organisations to support their internal comms & engagement, employer brand, learning & development (L&D), equality, diversity & inclusion (EDI) and corporate events.
We’ve helped brands get from “no idea” to engaging video content so let’s walk through the process.
Concept ➡️ Shoot ➡️ Post Production
The key is in the creative process
If a video content creator tells you they can turn up on the day and just film, that’s a red flag.
The process of developing a concept and planning a shoot cannot be scrimped on if you want something stand-out, professional and effective.
At dmb we work closely with our clients from day one to support and develop the concept for a video.
Some clients are really clear about what they want and what they’re trying to achieve, while others might want a bit more support and guidance.
Either way, we start with a brief.
Great projects start with a great brief
The brief outlines the need-to-knows about the business, the brand and the campaign goals, the audience, what channels you’ll be using, budget and timescales. The better the brief, the better the end result.
We can work closely with a client to develop this brief before moving onto developing the concept, where we take all that information and turn it into an idea:
- What’s the story?
- How do we want the audience to feel?
- What do we want them to do?
- What will the video look like?
As well as considering the must-have and nice-to-have options, this is also where risks and compliance can be considered – you want to complement company culture, not cause confusion.
A brilliant brief saves time and money because it stops the backwards and forwards of presenting something to a client that is way off the mark. Even if you’re not quite sure of what you do want for your video content, which we can help you to develop anyway, in our experience nearly everyone is really clear about what they don’t want!
Turning on the light bulbs
Now that we know where we’re trying to get to, next comes the fun part – the concept.
This is where creativity and ideas begin to come to life.
We take all the details in the brief, bounce them around and come back to you with a selection box of concepts to choose from.
Once you’ve made that choice, our job is to turn that abstract idea into reality. Imagine you’re going to an event – we’re your personal shopper and our aim is to make you look your best depending on what you’ve told us about the event, what style you like, who else will be there, how long the event is, and so on.
At dmb, what makes us different is that once our client has decided which concept they want to go for, we develop and consult on the creative process, like storyboard and script, with a keen eye for detail. We’re always thinking ahead to the finished product and all the steps and details needed to achieve that.
This means that when it comes to the shoot, no one turns up not knowing what they’re supposed to be doing. Everyone knows what the end result is going to look like and what their role is in achieving that.
This means we can save you time and money with clear expectations and minimal edits.
